Visual Art and Design: 2009 Aspen Institute Energy and Environment Award
The 2009 award for Visual Art and Design was presented to the Extreme Ice Survey for highlighting and reframing our understanding of climate change.
The photographic and video documentary of the Earth’s vanishing glaciers, the “Extreme Ice Survey“http://www.extremeicesurvey.org/, by James Balog is perhaps the most powerful evidence of the effects of climate change currently available. It is, as one nomination put it, “exhaustive, intrepid work—a complex, highly sophisticated combination of careful scientific research, daring adventure, and top-level aesthetics.”
